The farrowing rate is a biological index that measures the percentage of births occurring in a period, referring to females mated with a due date in that period (1). Like the return to estrus, the abortion rate, the total born per farrowing, among others, the farrowing rate is a zootechnical index of the efficiency of the sows in the production (2).
In the herd, the farrowing rate impacts the various aspects of management, breeding and farrowing, influencing both reproductive efficiency and the cost of producing a weaned piglet (3).
In S4, you can set the farrowing rate target in Farm > Settings > Management > Breeding > Reproductive loss targets - (image 1), because based on this goal, the system will calculate the predicted farrowing in the Service performance chart, available at: Management > Breeding > Analysis Center > Service performance chart (Figure 2)

There are factors that affects the farrowing rate, they are reproductive losses (repetition of heat, abortion, false pregnancy), as well as non-reproductive factors, such as losses caused by diseases that can lead to the culling or death of the female. For this reason, Agriness provides the adjusted farrowing rate, which is nothing more than an index that makes it easy to see what the farrowing rate of your farm would be like, excluding those non-reproductive factors that caused losses.
To assess the reproductive and non-reproductive factors that affected your farm's farrowing rate, access the Fifty Rate Analysis report, available at: Management > Breeding > Analysis Center > Farrowing rate analysis (Figure 3)

Calculating farrowing rate and adjusted farrowing rate
For both calculations, the formula is the same, what varies are the considerations. Therefore:
Farrowing Rate =
Where,
In the case of the adjusted farrowing rate, for the total coverage, sows mated at "X" days are NOT included in the calculation:
They died during pregnancy.
They were discarded for a cause that does not characterize a reproductive problem.
Note: Sows with discards generated automatically by the sale are also included in the adjusted farrowing rate
“X” is the gestation days target set on the farm.
